You don’t need a cast iron skillet to make great hash browns for a crowd. These bake in the oven to a golden, crunchy finish, and they can cook at the same time as bacon to save time. That leaves you free to prepare other dishes, like a quick fruit salad with ginger-lime dressing.

Potatoes benefit from bold seasoning, so this recipe uses garlic powder, seasoned salt, and butter for flavor. The result is simple, flavorful, and perfect for serving a large group.

These hash browns are on the thinner, crisp side. If you prefer thicker portions, double the ingredient amounts and add 10–15 minutes to the baking time.

    (30 – 32 ounce)
    bag shredded hash browns
  • 1
    medium
    onion

  • 1

    salt

    Lawry’s Seasoned Salt
  • 1
    cup
    shredded mild shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1
    stick salted butter
    melted

    13 inch x 18 inch half sheet pan
  • parchment paper
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the shredded hash browns, chopped onion, salt, garlic powder, seasoned salt, and cheddar cheese.
  3. Toss the mixture to distribute the seasonings and cheese evenly.
  4. Pour the melted butter over the potato mixture and toss well to coat.
  5. Line a half sheet pan with parchment paper and spray the paper lightly with cooking spray.
  6. Spread the hash brown mixture evenly across the prepared pan.
  7. Bake for 40–45 minutes, until the top is golden brown and crisp.
  8. Carefully slide the parchment and hash browns out of the pan to cool briefly.
  9. Use a pizza cutter to slice into 6 rows by 4 columns for 24 servings.
