Homemade Chocolate Spoons for Coffee and Hot Cocoa

The cool weather has arrived, and it’s the perfect time to make these easy chocolate spoons. They’re delightful for dipping into hot chocolate, coffee, or milk, and they make thoughtful homemade gifts during the holidays. These chocolate spoons are simple enough for kids to help make, which makes them extra fun and memorable.

Last year we wrapped several in clear bags and paired them with gift cards for teachers. The kids loved giving something they helped create, and the teachers appreciated the personal touch. Follow the simple steps below to make your own.

Ingredients:

Plastic spoons

Semi-sweet chocolate chips

White chocolate chips

Marshmallows

Mini chocolate chips

Sprinkles

Directions:

1. Prepare your workspace

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. This keeps the spoons from sticking and makes cleanup easy.

2. Melt the chocolate

Place semi-sweet or white chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl and heat in 30-second intervals, stirring between each interval until smooth and fully melted.

3. Coat the spoons

Dip each plastic spoon into the melted chocolate, coating it generously. You can cover the bowl of the spoon, the handle, or both depending on the look you want.

4. Add toppings

Lay the coated spoons on the prepared parchment and sprinkle with mini chocolate chips, marshmallows, and colorful sprinkles while the chocolate is still soft so the toppings stick.

5. Chill until set

Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator and chill until the chocolate is fully set, about 15–30 minutes depending on thickness.

Once set, the spoons are ready to enjoy. They’re perfect for stirring into warm drinks or packaging as gifts.
